The experience that matters most
You must have personally sold syndicated pharmaceutical market research from the vendor side. This means selling ongoing research products, subscriptions, reports or data-based insight solutions—not only custom consulting, advertising, SaaS or primary research projects.
The Opportunity
We are supporting a specialized pharmaceutical insights organization seeking a commercially driven Sales Director to expand relationships across major pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. This is a hands-on growth role for someone who understands how Market Research, Market Insights and Competitive Intelligence teams evaluate and purchase syndicated research.
The successful candidate will combine new-business development with strategic account growth, build credibility with senior client stakeholders and work closely with research, marketing and client-service teams to turn insight capabilities into meaningful commercial partnerships.
What You’ll Do
- Develop new business across large pharmaceutical and biotechnology organizations.
- Grow existing accounts by identifying unmet needs, new therapeutic-area opportunities and additional buyer groups.
- Sell syndicated research products, subscriptions, reports and insight solutions to Market Research, Market Insights, Competitive Intelligence, Marketing and Franchise stakeholders.
- Own the complete sales process—from prospecting and discovery through proposals, negotiation, close and expansion.
- Build multi-level relationships across client organizations and create account plans that support sustainable revenue growth.
- Partner with research, analytics, marketing and client-service teams to shape relevant solutions and strong client presentations.
- Maintain accurate pipeline visibility, forecasting and activity within the CRM.
- Represent the organization at selected industry meetings, conferences and onsite client engagements.
What We’re Looking For
- Approximately 10 years of relevant pharmaceutical market-research sales or business-development experience is ideal; highly driven candidates with somewhat less experience may also be considered.
- Direct vendor-side experience selling syndicated pharmaceutical market research is required.
- Demonstrated success winning new pharmaceutical clients and expanding established Big Pharma accounts.
- Strong relationships with Market Research, Market Insights, Competitive Intelligence, Marketing or commercial-strategy buyers.
- Evidence of measurable sales performance, including quota achievement, account growth, new logos, contract value or book of business.
- Comfort operating in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment and working across research, marketing, analytics and client-service functions.
- Executive-level communication, consultative selling and disciplined pipeline-management skills.
- U.S.-based and able to travel onsite a few times per year. Candidates in Eastern or Central time zones are preferred.
Relevant Market Experience
Experience across one or more specialty pharmaceutical markets is valuable, including dermatology, gastroenterology, rheumatology, nephrology, neurology, ophthalmology, oncology and other complex therapeutic areas.
What Success Looks Like
- You can clearly explain the syndicated research products you have sold and the buyers who purchased them.
- You have examples of opening new pharmaceutical accounts or materially expanding existing ones.
- You bring a thoughtful network and know how to create opportunities beyond inbound leads.
- You use commercial metrics to describe your performance and can speak credibly about quota, revenue and account growth.
- You work effectively with cross-functional partners and translate client needs into relevant research solutions.
